We’re back on the blog folks and today we’re talking all about easy ways you can make your special day more sustainable. Being kinder to the environment is at the forefront of everyone’s minds at the moment, especially within the wedding industry, with couples seeking out different ways to make their celebration greener than before. From your stationery through to your styling, here’s how you can make your wedding more wonderful and less wasteful…

Wedding Confetti

We love seeing how our couples get creative with their wedding confetti here at The Cornish Tent Company and there are oodles of fun and environmentally friendly options to choose from. We’re talking flower petals, leaves or even herbs if you want to add an Italian touch to your nuptials.

Shop Local

We’re all about supporting local businesses here at The Cornish Tent Company and we encourage our couples to do the same, particularly if you’re travelling further afield and potentially increasing carbon footprint. Cornwall is home to tonnes of incredibly talented suppliers (we can recommend plenty of folk right here) and you’ll reduce travelling and emissions by shopping locally for your celebration. Plus, the support is always appreciated!

Wedding Favours

Go green with your wedding favours and let your guests know you’re all about the environment by offering them something sustainable to take home. Favours that can be planted, such as a pack of seeds (grow the love) or even a small potted plant or succulent. You could even tie a rustic name tag around the pot to use as place settings – using recycled paper, of course. Tasty edible favours always go down a treat too and they’re far less likely to get left behind. Mini cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts or homemade chocolates are a delicious choice that your friends and family will love.

Be Savvy

Being sustainable is all about being savvy. Take time to consider the changes you could make, even when it comes to things like your drinks and glassware. Make it fun by allocating one glass to each guest (it can even be personalised with their own name tag) so that they use it throughout the whole day / evening for drinks top ups. If you want to go all out, create a table decorated with stylish signage and snazzy glassware to choose from. It’ll reduce the amount you have to spend on renting glassware, as well as washing up – win win!

DIY Décor

Your décor will have a huge impact on the environment and it’s often the little details that have the biggest impact. Swap plastic straws for paper straws, opt for biodegradable hanging paper lanterns, use gin bottles for centrepieces that can be recycled afterwards – and so on! There is plenty of scope to ensure your wedding décor is kind to the environment without compromising on style.
